Software archive

From 1998 to 2006 this page offered free programs I wrote, all under the GPL: mostly Windows tools in Visual C++ and MFC, and the PHP web mailer Popper. Most of them no longer work: the services, phones and calculators they talked to are gone. The source code survived. In 2026 I collected it, recovered the old CVS and Subversion history where it still existed, and put everything on GitHub.

HPComm – the one Hewlett-Packard shipped

HPComm started as my own free replacement for HP's PC link software for the HP48 calculator. It shows the calculator's files on one side and the PC's files on the other, like Windows Explorer, and talks Kermit over a serial cable. Version 2.4 came out in February 1999.

Then Hewlett-Packard got in touch. Together with Mitch Davis of HP I turned it into HPComm 3.0. HP shipped it later that year in the purple box of the official HP Graphing Calculator PC Connectivity Kit for the HP48 and the new HP49G, still under the GPL. HPComm38 for the HP38G followed in December 1999, and HPGComm 2.0 for the HP39G and HP40G in 2001. HPComm 3.0r4 has been downloaded more than 135,000 times from hpcalc.org, where it is still listed today.

The repository holds HPComm 3.0r4, HPComm38, HPGComm 2.01 with its SourceForge CVS history, the unfinished HPCommShell Explorer extension and a copy of the hpcomm.org website.

Where the originals still live

The repositories contain source code only. The original installers are still on a few download sites:
